Befriending Your Thoughts: A Yoga Practice for Approaching Curiosity with Openness

Yoga is a powerful tool for cultivating curiosity and self-awareness. Through the physical practice of yoga postures (asanas) and the meditative practice of observing our thoughts, we can learn to approach our inner world with openness and compassion. In this article, we'll explore a yoga practice for befriending your thoughts and cultivating curiosity.

Step 1: Find a comfortable seat

Begin by finding a comfortable seated position. You may sit on a cushion or a chair, with your feet resting on the ground. Sit with your spine long and your shoulders relaxed. Bring your hands to rest on your knees or in your lap.

Step 2: Connect with your breath

Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Notice the sensation of the air moving in and out of your body. Begin to deepen your breath, inhaling and exhaling through your nose. Allow your breath to become slow and steady.

Step 3: Observe your thoughts

Step 5: Befriend your thoughts

Step 6: Release your thoughts

When you're ready to end your practice, release your thoughts with a deep exhale. Let go of any judgments or attachments you have to your thoughts, and allow them to pass through you.
